Morecambe Bay Partnership Photo Competition

Morecambe Bay Partnership ‘Photography Competition 2025/2026’

Are you a budding photographer or just love recording Morecambe Bay’s coastline when you’re out and about?

To mark ‘Morecambe Bay Day’ in 2025 and to celebrate our amazing coastline, a competition was launched to showcase the beauty and diversity of Morecambe Bay and the talents of our supporters.

We know many people capture the Bay through photographs so we’re inviting competition entries that show your best images of Morecambe Bay and everything it has to offer. When you submit your entry, we’ll ask your view on the Bay too.

From all the entries we receive, 12 winning images will be selected and published in a fundraising calendar (published, summer 2026).

How to get involved
Whatever level of engagement you have with photos and photography, we’d love you to get involved. For those of you who want inspiration have a look at the following categories:

Towns & Villages – Capture the Bay’s towns or villages – maybe you live, work or study in one and want to share your everyday view.

Views & Landscapes – Show us your favourite view of Morecambe Bay – this can be your favourite landscape: rocky headlands, limestone outcrops, mudflats, estuaries, saltmarshes and woods.

The Bay changes so much. Blue skies and the Bay’s famous sunsets are wonderful, but we know the Bay offers up other dramatic weather – snow, storms, wind, rain, moody clouds and rainbows – all of which make the Bay dynamic and captivating.

Heritage & Landmarks – Some of our best spots on the Bay are heritage landmarks and sites such as the Hoad (Ulverston), St. Peter’s Church and Heysham Village, the ‘Chimney’ (Jenny Brown’s Point)., Arnside Viaduct. Do you have a stunning image of something less well known?

Nature – Prefer to capture the flora and fauna of Morecambe Bay? The Bay, its estuaries and surrounding countryside are famous for birdlife but are also home to seals and otters, rare butterflies and moths and beautiful orchids. Show us something you think is special.

N.B. Unfortunately, we cannot accept photographs of people. This is due to strict data protection laws which we must comply with.

12 stunning images will be selected to feature in a fundraising calendar (published summer 2026) with full credit to each photographer/creator. You will be named as the photographer and retain copyright.

Winning photos will also be published to our social media channels, with full image credits. Ideally, we’d like to accompany these posts with a little biography about the winning photographers.

if you’re a budding photographer or a professional who submits a winning entry, we’ll feature your social media channels and promote your photography (collectively we have over 10,000 followers across our channels).

Winning images will also be promoted in our newsletter (over 2,000 subscribers).

Entries are welcome from under 18’s.

The closing date for entries is 4pm on 20th February 2026. Entries will be selected by Friday, 6th March 2026.

Plans to build a traffic free link between Grange and Arnside are set to take a step forward.

Members of the South Lakeland locality board for Westmorland and Furness Council are set to recommend £99,999 from the local sustainable travel and transport fund goes towards the project to adapt the Arnside viaduct to enable walkers and cyclists to cross the Kent Estuary.

A report from Morecambe Bay Partnership says: “The proposed construction of a 5.5km raised boardwalk along the railway embankment and a cantilevered bridge over the viaduct creates a new leisure space that also limits the current harmful encroachment by people and dogs onto the highly sensitive saltmarsh. The enclosed trail route can play an important part in reducing bird disturbance and preventing damage to sensitive flora and fauna. These are all factors of concern locally to us and our partners Natural England and RSPB who are tackling this problem.”

“We believe the trail provides an opportunity to bring people closer to nature and educate them to care about the special environment and wildlife of the Bay.”

According to the report, feedback for the proposed scheme was ‘incredibly positive’ with 99.6% of the 6,000 respondents to the consultation supporting the proposal.

If the funding is granted, the partnership intends to progress the Arnside to Grange trail scheme to outline business case (OBC) status which is the planning phase of the project and acts as the final technical assessment stage prior to the initiation of scheme procurement.

The partnership will commission consultants to provide the technical engineering, environmental, active travel planning and place making expertise to achieve support for the scheme which provides a ‘compelling’ case for construction funding.

Members of the South Lakeland locality board for Westmorland and Furness Council are set to recommend the funding for the project on January 25 at Kendal Town Hall.
