‘The Alan Hull Songbook’ Gig Raises £1565.50 for CancerCare

The recent ‘Alan Hull Songbook’ gig at the W.I. & Village Hall on 11th July raised a brilliant £1565.50 for local charity, CancerCare.

Tony Farren, from Windermere opened the gig with his unique folk style which was very well received. The amazing Dave Hull-Denholm band (Dave is the frontman of popular band, Lindisfarne) played a 95 minute set of some well-known, and some lesser known songs from the Alan Hull songbook, including: Lady Eleanor, Run For Home, Clear White Light and many more, with enthusiastic assistance from the audience who had a great time singing along too.

The gig was a Sell Out, and the £1565.50 was raised from ticket sales, the bar (supplied by JJ Crossfields and run by Sarah & Charlotte who have also been raising money for CancerCare by taking part in events such as the recent Cross Bay Half Marathon), raffle ticket sales with prizes donated with the enormous generosity of local businesses (see below) and the musicians, who travelled from as far away as Newcastle, and played for light expenses only.

‘Thank You’ from Arnside RNLI Committee

Arnside RNLI committee would like to thank all those who attended the Fundraising Disco held on 30th November in the W.I. Village Hall.

We would also like to thank the sponsors of the generous raffle prizes – namely, Kendal Asda, Anne Pattison, Beetham Garden Centre, JJ Crossfield, Porsche, Carnforth Tesco, The Villa at Levens and Arnside RNLI. We would also like to thank our local DJ, Dave Brown, who greatly assisted in making it a great evening.

Thanks to Arnside Chip Shop for their generous contribution to the catering, and finally, thanks to the Arnside Village website and the Arnside Broadsheet for their support throughout the year.

The sum raised at the Disco was £460.00 which will go towards Saving Lives at Sea.

Sustainable Arnside

Sustainable Arnside is gathering strength and gathering a small fan club since supporting the ‘Retrofit made Easy’ event, arranged by Helen Chaffey and CAfS. It was a tremendous success and Paul Bates, the Chairman, introduced the Group to the large audience.

The audience was given the opportunity to have their say as to what they would like the group to focus on as, with so much that could be done, it was felt that local residents should be the guide.

A questionnaire completed at the meeting gave important feedback, and. with that feedback in mind, they can now make plans for the future.

As their first initiative, Sustainable Arnside is delighted to offer Arnside residents and visitors the opportunity to recycle pens and other writing implements. All spent pens and correction fluid can now be recycled at. Arnside Fish and Chip shop, who have kindly provided a collection point at their premises.

A plastic collection box can be found just beyond the takeaway entrance on the wall, close to the tin foil/can recycling bin. Its clearly labelled (see below) showing a list of what is accepted and what is not. For full details see poster below.
