Lecture Group
A friendly and inclusive group interested in learning about different subjects.
A series of six lectures is held every Spring and Autumn in the Arnside W.I. & Village Hall from 2.15 to approximately 4pm – allowing time for questions and discussion and a break for tea and coffee. Lectures are £3 per session.
The programme for Autumn 2024 covers ‘Music and Entertainment in North West England’ with talks provided by various experts on such topics as Comedy, Entertainers, Traditional songs, Merrie England and May Day, History of Amateur Musical Theatre and Historical Pageants.
The programme for Spring 2025 is on the subject of the Lowther Estate. There will be a series of lectures, some by people connected with the Lowther Estate and some by independent speakers, covering the history of the estate and family, some notable historical figures, the gardens and the management of the wider modern estate.
Details can be found on the Events page by searching for ‘Lecture Group’.
Lecturers and presenters are engaged to speak on subjects for which they have established local and/or nationally recognised expertise. A wide variety of topics are covered to cater for all interests and ideas for future series are always appreciated.
New volunteers are always welcome. All help is appreciated and there are many ways in which you can do this. Without continued support and attendance, the group would not be able to function and provide lectures regularly to the members.
Above all we hope people enjoy the lectures and maybe learn something new and interesting along the way
The group are currently looking for two volunteers to take on the roles of Secretary and Treasurer.
