Arnside Sailing Club Youth Programme
The Sailing Club has a thriving youth programme for children and young people aged 8 years and upwards, The Club runs RYA Youth Beginner Courses at Killington Lake at spring half term and during the summer holidays, and taster sessions on the estuary in the summer. These are followed by improver courses at Killington Lake and by the Club’s high tide sessions at Arnside for improvers and advanced youth sailors.
Learning to sail is a great achievement for a young person. Sailing helps to develop independence, confidence, resilience, teamwork and communication skills.
Arnside has a long tradition of sailing. Arthur Ransome’s ‘Swallow’ was built in the village and another of his boats, ‘Coch-y-bonddhu’, was used for teaching sailing at Earnseat School on the seafront at Ashmeadow in the1950s.
Such a great opportunity for anyone growing up in Arnside to have this great resource on their doorstep, so why not let them give sailing a go!
The Club also offers paddle boarding and kayaking, which is something families could enjoy together on the estuary in summer. Why not give it a try!
