The opening event of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Arnside and Silverdale Landscape Trust will be a lecture and a Jacob’s Join supper. Our traditional Jacob’s Join (drinks will be available) will be supplemented by some extras to mark the Trust’s 40th birthday. Supper will be followed by a talk on climate change effects on plants and soil ecology by Richard Bardgett, Professor of Ecology at Lancaster University.
Professor Richard Bardgett is a Distinguished Professor in Ecology now at Lancaster University (www.lancaster.ac.uk/lec/about-us/people/richard-bardgett). A major focus of his recent research is ecological resilience, and understanding how below-ground communities and the biogeochemical cycles they regulate respond to and recover from climate extremes. Richard’s work in this area has led to foundational insights and practical implementation of below-ground ecological concepts for climate mitigation and the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
We also plan to have a display remembering the early days of the Trust.
Further events are still at the planning stage; once finalised, details will be published on the Trust’s website at landscapetrust.org.uk.
