The Autumn/ Winter series of lectures for 2025/2026 is a 6 week, fully illustrated course exploring changing styles and plant introduction with Elaine Taylor MA, Garden Historian.
This week, the subjects are:
‘THOMAS MAWSON, LANCASHIRE’S LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT’ – Thomas Mawson was the most sought-after landscape architect; he designed and built lavish private gardens, public parks and promenades, and gardens of remembrance after world war 1. Birth of the National Trust, and the RHS.
‘FINDING A WINDSOR STYLE’ – The Windsor era reflects austerity in commissions for large institutions; the National Lottery Heritage fund has achieved many restorations. Recent style has been influenced by a concern for ecology.
Cost: £4 per week.
