*Cancelled* ‘Try Your Hand at Creative Writing’ Course

This event has ended

Is there a poem in you, struggling to come out? A short story? Maybe even a novel? We’ve all dreamed of it – have you ever tried it? Why not come along to some regular sessions and be surprised by what you can do.

There is a FREE Taster Evening on Thursday 17th October in the Kent Room at the E.I., followed by four Thursday evening sessions over the following 4 weeks.

The cost for each session (other than the Free Taster Session) is £5. Tea and coffee will be provided. No previous experience required.

The sessions will be led by Arnside resident, Dr Mark Chater, an experienced teacher, adult educator and creative writer. There will be a mixture of discussion, explanation, writing, and sharing. Feedback will be supportive and constructive. It will be a space in which to enjoy challenging yourself to express yourself.

Contact Mark Chater on 07758 416285 or work.markchater@gmail.com

The provisional programme for the sessions covers a flexible range of issues including:

  • What makes a good or bad piece of writing?
  • How do we start and end?
  • Using humour.
  • Using suspense.
  • Developing character and plot.
  • Writing for children and teenagers.

The exact range and sequence of topics to be covered will depend on your interests.
