Arnside Lecture Group present their Spring 2025 series of lectures on the theme ‘Lowther and its People’.

A range of speakers will paint a picture of the Lowther Castle estate and some members of the Lowther family. The Lowthers have been among the most signidicant landholders in Cumberland and Westmorland. The modern Lowther Estate is a major enterprise and tourist attraction.

The fifth lecture in the series is on ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do: Selling The Lowther Estates in West Cumberland’ with Alan Crosby. Alan is a well-known local and regional historian and editor of the ‘Local Historian, the journal of the British Association for Local History.
